Dear Christine, only yesterday did I find your blog about my / our Darling Thomas Paine. I cannot describe how much I admire and love Thomas (if it is possible to love somebody who is not among us) and I recently wrote an article on him for my own blog. But certainly, your articles are much better! I enjoy reading them with a picture of Thomas Paine in my soul. Thank you for them! Greetings from Slovakia
Thank you for your kind words. I’m so glad that you’re enjoying the website! I plan an update as soon as I finish with another writing project that has me occupied at the moment.
Thomas Paine has been a huge part of my life for about eight years now, and changed my perspective (and my life) in so many ways — so, yes, my attachment to him often feels quite personal — as I hope the essays here show. Love is not too strong a word. He is in so many ways the friend who was always at my shoulder, but that I never saw until he decided to step into view. It’s great to know that his life and work have affected so many people in such a deep way.
If you haven’t seen it already (or even if you have), I highly recommend Ian Ruskin’s film on Paine, which I’ve profiled in a blog-post here, and also listed on the resources page. Mr. Ruskin has a genuine feeling for Paine’s life and spirit — and it comes through in his (amazing) performance.
I will certainly check out your blog. I have think we may have met previously on the TPNHA Facebook page. I hope you will stay tuned here — and stay in touch. Meeting other Thomas Paine fans is always a pleasure. Thank you again so much for reading my work and taking time to comment!
Thank you for your reply, dear Christine.
I discovered Thomas Paine in 2004 (when I was 19) in one Czech article about Deism, my belief at the time. I immediately fell in love with him and the man fascinates me still so much, for all what he did, wrote… Almost unbelievable.
Yes, I know Mr. Ruskin’s Paine and I am about to order Dvd, but I do not know if my notebook will enable me to watch it, you know I am in Europe, but my good friend has to find out. Mr. Ruskin is perfect Paine and I like his voice so much, really, pleasure for my ears and I enjoy every sentence from his mouth.
Last weekend I wrote short story about Thomas Paine. It is all in Slovak language, from time to time I write in Czech, but you are welcome to check it!
